After much discussion, prayer and research the decision was made in the summer of 2014 to make some modifications to the Awana program at Blaise. The Puggles, Cubbies and Special Friends were largely unaffected. The only real change was from handbook time to "scripture" time in the Sparks and TnT groups. Instead of each child working on a different verse and a different section in their handbooks, they began working from the same verse and scripture memory plan from the Awana "Truth Seekers" book. These changes allowed us to be more streamlined and effective. We feel this was a beneficial change that allowed us to continue reaching families with the gospel and making disciples.
We had another change at the end of this year. Our Awana Commander stepped down to devote more time to his personal ministry. Mike Drayton will be around and still serving at Blaise but he and his wife Debbie will be focusing more of their time on Serving Him Ministries. We are currently seeking God's will on who should fill this vital role in our children's ministry. Please join us in praying for God to raise up a leader for this role.
In addition, we would like to let you know that Awana International will be introducing a new Truth and Training curriculum in the fall of 2016. The new curriculum will use the Truth Seekers material we are currently using. Our Awana representative recently informed us that the new curriculum will be virtually identical to the format modifications Blaise made in the fall of 2014. So be encouraged that Blaise truly has been a TrailBLAISEr in the Awana ministry. If you are interested in being a part of the children's ministry please come see Pastor Tim.
